The Experience
Days here are unhurried: calm, swimmable water protected by the bay, fishing boats and yachts at anchor, and a low-key village strip running right along the sand. As the sun drops behind the moored boats, the beach flips into Anguilla's nightlife capital ΓÇö reggae and jazz drifting from open-air bars, full-moon parties on the sand, and, if your timing is lucky, traditional wooden boat racing (Anguilla's national sport) launching straight off the beach during summer regattas and Carnival in early August.
What to Try
Walk the full crescent at golden hour, then plant yourself at a boat-turned-bar for rum punch as the sun sets over the harbor. Try the island-famous nachos and margaritas at Elvis', or go traditional with whole steamed snapper, rice and peas at Johnno's ΓÇö its Sunday afternoon jazz session draws people from across the island. Behind the beach, peek at the old salt pond, once the engine of Anguilla's salt-export economy.

Time your visit to the moon and the calendar: Elvis' throws legendary Full Moon Parties, and Sunday afternoons at Johnno's are the week's social high point. If you're around in late July or early August for Carnival, the beach hosts boat-race days when the whole island turns out ΓÇö arrive early, as the small beachfront road fills fast.
