Why Go

St Barth looks like all rosé and reef snorkels, but a week of boat-hopping, hillside stairs and hot-yoga classes catches up with everybody. When it does, in-the-know regulars skip the resort spa and text Pauline — a French-trained masseur-kinésithérapeute working out of a small clinic on Rue Adrien Questel, five minutes from the harbour.

The Experience

This is a proper cabinet de kinésithérapie, not a scented-candle wellness room. Pauline (who also practices under her married name, Plasse) is a state-registered kiné and osteopath, so sessions are hands-on, diagnostic and tailored — deep-tissue work, joint mobilisation, stretching and rehab exercises rather than a set spa menu. Expect a quick assessment, targeted treatment on the area that's actually complaining, and homework to keep it quiet for the rest of the trip. The clinic itself is small, calm and unfussy, in the little block of medical practices just uphill from the port.

What to Try

Book a séance de kinésithérapie if you've tweaked something on a hike up Colombier or on a charter boom-swing; ask for massage thérapeutique / drainage if you just want to reset shoulders and lower back after long-haul flights and paddleboarding. Osteopathy-style adjustments are useful for post-surf neck and lock-jaw. If you're staying long-term or with kids, she also handles rehab plans and post-op physio.

Insider Tip

The island's medical practices book up fast in high season and Pauline works with local yacht crews and repeat villa guests — call the practice line (05 90 87 18 77) as soon as you know you need a slot, not the morning of. She's registered with the French system, so if you're EU-insured, bring your Carte Vitale and you'll be reimbursed like at home; non-EU travellers should ask for a facture détaillée to file with travel insurance.

The Practical Stuff

Address: 7 Rue Adrien Questel, Gustavia 97133, Saint-Barthélemy — a short walk uphill from the Quai Général de Gaulle, in the cluster of professions de santé near the town centre. Payment by card, cash or Carte Vitale for eligible patients.

Pair It With

  • Absolute Hot Yoga — Ten-minute walk away in Gustavia ΓÇö a good pre-session warm-up or a gentler follow-up flow once Pauline has loosened everything up.
  • ├Ç fleur de peau - St Barth — Saint-Jean skincare and beauty stop to round out a proper reset day after your physio session ΓÇö facial or body care to complement the hands-on therapy work.
  • 1493 Lodges St Barth — If you're staying up in Colombier, pair a morning appointment in Gustavia with lunch and a swim back near the lodges ΓÇö the drive down for treatment is worth it.
